Rosapenna Golf Resort
located in the Northwest of Ireland, Downings Co. Donegal. The resort is set to become one of the biggest golf resorts in Europe with 63 golf holes sitting on some 1170 acres of links land. Notably, two links course are currently in play and another excellent 18 hole golf courses with an additional 9 hole course are soon to be open in mid-2021. With this in mind, a 72 bedroom hotel and a range of golf links courses to play creating a fantastic golf links experience for everyone to enjoy Golf Ireland.
Rosapenna was first built when Old Tom Morris was hired back in 1892 to make out a course along Sheephaven bay. The property changed hands only four times until Frank Casey purchase the lands and hotel in 1981. Up to 2019, Old Toms course was extended to 18 holes and Pat Ruddy (The European Club) designed another 18 holes, called Sandy Hills Golf Links.
In 2006 property developers hired Jack Nicklaus to redevelop the existing 36 hole site of links land adjacent to the Hotel. However, shortly after the financial crash of 2007, the rival 5* Hotel project fell into disarray.
Consequently, the Caseys bought the 370-acre property from the Irish National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) in 2012. Furthermore, they worked with Tom Doak the world-famous golf course designer creating the St Patricks Golf Links at Rosapenna.

Things to See and Do Near Rosapenna Golf Resort
Also, there are plenty of things to do and place to see when others are playing golf. Certainly, Donegal is alive with beautiful Irish countryside and the following places are ideal to see!
Fanad Lighthouse: A beautiful Lighthouse to visit.
Glenveagh National Park: Consists of 16,000 hectares of Irish wilderness, lakes and mountains. Also, guided walking tours are available.
Rita Wilson Gallery: Dramatic photography of the Donegal Coastline.
Dunlewey Centre: Arts & crafts shops with tweed weaving demonstrations.
Sliabh League: One of the highest cliffs in Europe, up to 2000ft and twice as high as the Cliffs of Moher.
Grianan of Aileach: A historic monument build on the hill of Grianán. Mainly an old royal fort overlooking Lough Swilly.
Ards Forest Park: Noted for the most northerly forested park in Irelan. Also, the forest extends 480 hectares contains a range of plant and wildlife forms, sandy beaches, and rivers. Certainly, perfect for nature walks, beautiful picnics days and play areas.
Sea or River Fishing: Sea fishing can be arranged for the clam Atlantic Ocean.
Finally, walking loops, plenty of coastal roads to cycle and surfing. Also Sea tours and sea diving!
